After NBA players Donavan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert tested positive for the COVID-19 virus, a list of cancellations took place, eventually leading up to the indefinite suspension. First, the Oklahoma City Thunder-Utah Jazz game was cancelled just before tip off due to Gobert and Mitchell’s positive tests and it was announced to the fans that the game wouldn’t be played. Roughly an hour later it was announced that the season would be suspended and the last game on the night’s schedule between the Pelicans and Kings was ultimately cancelled. The NBA wasn’t the only professional sports league that was impacted by the nightmare of the COVID-19 outbreak, the MLB had to shorten their season from 162 games to just 60. The NBA returned after 4 months on July 30th, with teams playing in Orlando in what is known as the “NBA Bubble”. 22 of the 30 teams were invited with the eight teams that had already been eliminated from playoff contention being excluded. Games were held behind closed doors with no fans in attendance and players stayed in Disney World hotels. There were 8 additional regular season games played to determine the playoff seeding and the playoffs were played with the same format and ended with the Lakers beating the Heat in 6 games.
